Small shops worth a stop
The gift shops, tea rooms, bookstores and plant shops I send friends to, most of them family- or women-owned.

Every business started out as a thought, a dream, and that owner is out there hustling to make it come true. These are the neighborhood shops I actually buy from.
Sidebloom, La Crescenta
A thoughtfully curated gift shop from the makers of Our Heiday paper goods, and a lovely space for the community to come together. Shop owner Pat and her team put together beautiful displays for people of all ages, and host workshops and Second Saturday events for other small businesses.
Leanna Lin’s Wonderland, Eagle Rock
The cutest shop in Eagle Rock for gifts: unique art pieces, adorable gifts and collectibles. Shop owner Leanna is just lovely and puts together amazing gift boxes!
Sidecca, Altadena
A lively gift shop with a vintage feel, with adorable outfits, Altadena merch, fun socks, and cute cuddlies you won’t find in any other store locally.
Once Upon A Time and Lost Books, Montrose
The nation’s oldest children’s bookstore, and its neighbor for books, plants and vinyl. See the Montrose afternoon guide for the full story.
Pasadena Wine Shop, Pasadena
Shop owner Nicole is the best; she knows you by name and you can rest assured that any bottle she picks out will be amazing.
Altadena Beverage, Altadena
Whether you’re going to a sophisticated dinner party or prepping for a late-night snack session, they’ve got you covered. Owners Adam and Kate actually know everything about wine, live down the street, and stock goodies they personally love, including from local bakers, chefs and farmers.
Dinosaur Farm, South Pasadena
A wild and fun specialty toy shop with an amazing dinosaur collection, books and other toys for every person in your life. You can also rent out an event space or join for their weekly story time.
